Big idea: Multicellular organisms have organ systems that enable them to survive and interact within their environment 


  • The basic structures and functions of body systems
  • Digestive system
  • Muscular system
  • Skeletal system
  • Circulatory system
  • Respiratory system

 

Big Idea: Solutions are homogenous


 

  • Solutions can be separated using different techniques: distillation, evaporation, crystallization
  • Solubility of solids, liquids and gases
  • Properties of solutions: pH, Concentration
  • Dissolving: process of forming a solution


 

Big Idea: Machines are devices that transfer force and energy


  • Properties of simple machines: levers, wedge, inclined, plane, wheel and axle, pulley, & screw
  • Force effects of simple machines: changing direction and multiplying force
  • Constructed machines: combinations of simple machines from complex machines
  • Found in nature: the lever is the basis of musculoskeletal system
  • power: machine power ratings, motors

 

Big Idea: Earth materials change as they move through the rock cycle and can be used as natural resources


  • The rock cycle
  • Local types of earth materials: minerals, rok, clay, boulder, gravel, sand, soil
  • First peoples concepts of interconnectedness in the environment 
  • The nature of sustainable practices around Bc's resources
  • First Peoples knowledge of sustainable practices
